Part 1: “How’d You Do It?”

An over-ambitious husband convinced his wife to design & build their non-traditional dream home together. Against all odds, we’ve “finished!” Nearly two years after beginning construction, we’re telling the story of how we pulled off this extraordinary feat: Why & How we built a house together, 90% with our own hands, while working full time, raising our son, pursuing adoption, getting pregnant, on a budget, without enough experience, while keeping our sanity & family in tact. Did I leave anything out? Episode is all about what it took to tackle this feat — physically, financially, mentally, and spiritually. We cover the planning/design phase all the way to getting the “skeleton” built.

Part 2: “In The Trenches”

We share what it was, like being in the trenches (literally and figuratively), the satisfaction of framing walls with your spouse and getting dried in, our first terrible contractor experience that God redeemed, paying quadruple for 2×4’s, and the incredible relationships that saved our tails the moment I realized I was way in over my head with this project. We cover everything from the skeleton to getting dried in, to interior framing.

Part 3: “The Home Stretch: All Hands on Deck”

We reminisce on the wildest stories from the final 9-ish months of the build. Like turning your living room into a spray booth a week before you host your entire family during Christmas… This is fun 🙂 We cover A LOT of ground from framing, utilities and sheetrock to cabinets & spiral staircases, to finishing touches.

About this series:

Against all odds, we’ve “finished!” Nearly two years after beginning construction, we’re telling the story of how we pulled off this extraordinary feat: Why & How we built a house together, 90% with our own hands, while working full time, raising our son, pursuing adoption, getting pregnant, on a budget, without enough experience, while keeping our sanity & family in tact. Did I leave anything out?

In this short series, we’ll cover:
• What specific resources helped us persevere (& grow) through each burnout stage – mentally, physically, financially, and spiritually.
• What gave us the confidence & why we decided to build our own home.
• What we didn’t expect being the general contractor & what we hired out.
• How to avoid nightmare contractor experiences vs. great ones (we had both)
• What in our marriage, relationships, and creativity were instrumental.
• The sacrifices we made, its impact on our family, and the dangerous uncontrolled ambition.
• How much everything cost, financing, and staying affordable through record highs.
• Some technical nerding-out about material choices, design, lifestyle, and efficiency (and the recording studio :))

We’re sharing the highs, lows, and anything you wanna know. Just ask us while we’re live. – Sundays at 6:00 PM Pacific
